Susan Boyle Interview with Matt Lauer for Thanksgiving
On the Today show, today, Matt Lauer gave us a preview of the interview he had with Susan Boyle which will be broadcast at Thanksgiving, November 26th.
Matt asked Susan about how her life had changed in the seven months since she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent. “It feels very surreal, as if it’s not really happening,” Susan answered.
When asked if she herself had changed, Susan replied “I’ve grown up a bit, and become more of a lady. I don’t swing my hips as much”.
She also confessed that “You’ll See” was a statement that she was trying to make to the teachers who beat her at school, and the pupils who taunted her.
“You may have done it to me when I was younger, but you can’t do it anymore, I’m all grown up now,” said Susan.
Susan Boyle on NBC’s Today Show – Today
Susan Boyle wowed the adoring crowd on NBC’s Today show this morning, performing tracks from her record breaking “I Dreamed a Dream” album.
Dressed in a smart black coat and signature red scarf – which many of her fans wore to greet her at the airport the previous day – she sang “I Dreamed a Dream”, “Wild Horses” (the rendition of which host Meredith Vieira said was “absolutely beautiful”) and “Cry Me a River.”
Susan looked happy and confident, and was in good voice.
And here are the videos for all the people who didn’t get to see Susan on the Today Show.
Susan Boyle arrives in New York
Susan Boyle has arrived at JFK airport in New York, in readiness for her live performance on NBC’s Today show this morning. She will get to explore the Big Apple on Tuesday.
Susan will be singing three songs from her debut album, which was released today, at Manhattan’s Rockefeller Center.
“The album itself is like a reflection on my whole life,” Susan says. “I’ve waited so long to become a professional singer and now it’s become real.”
In other news, Susan has confirmed that she won’t be moving out of her ex council house home in Blackburn, West Lothian, any time soon.
“I don’t want to be moving an inch away from my family, and Pebbles doesn’t want to move,” Susan said, speaking to the News of The World.
“She’s lived there all her life and cats hate upping sticks.
“I’m the wee wifey with the mop and the cat next door. It’s what keeps me grounded — remembering I am just that wifey. And Pebbles would hate to live anywhere posh.”
And here is Susan Boyle being interviewed as she arrived in New York, by GMTV’s Sue Jameson:

Susan Boyle’s Hollywood Makeover
A delight here for all Susan Boyle fans, Susan Boyle’s Hollywood Makeover for Harper’s Bazaar Magazine can now be viewed online. Here is a Harper’s Bazaar video of the makeover taking place:
The photo shoot, which is available in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar Magazine (I can hear your little footsteps rushing out to get your copy right now!) is called:”Susan Boyle: Unsung Hero.”
Susan looks the nicest I’ve ever seen her look, and she said herself the designer gowns that she wore made her “feel like a movie star”.
“It really made me feel like a Hollywood actress. Had my hair done up,” she added.
When asked how she was feeling about her rise to fame, Susan told Harper’s Bazaar: “It does feel unreal. It will take a bit of adjusting to because I’ve led a sheltered life, I know. I’ve got life experience, but mentally I have to adjust. But it’s all good. All good.”
When asked if she did the right thing auditioning for the show, she says: “Come on! It goes without saying. Come on now!”
Laura Brown, the special projects editor for Harper’s Bazaar, spoke to NBC’s Today Show. She said: “The idea behind the shoot was a very, very simple one.
“It was to take gorgeous, glamorous and sensitive portraits of her. This was her first magazine photo shoot, so you can’t do too much too soon.
“What we did was give her a little bit of a haircut, and a little bit of a curl.. actually the shape of her hair is great.. so we just tidied it up a little bit and paired it with some natural makeup, and she looked great.’
You can see the video of Laura Brown’s NBC interview here:
The photo shoot took place in Cliveden, a luxurious Italianate mansion, which was once home to Waldorf Astor and his bride, Nancy Langhorne, and is now a hotel just outside London.
Susan reveals that when she sang “I Dreamed a Dream”, she wasn’t dreaming about becoming a singer. She was thinking about the place she found herself in after her 91 year old mother whom she lived with passed away in 2007.
“I did the audition for her because she always wanted me to make something of my life, but I had to wait a bit because her death prevented me from singing for a while. I couldn’t put my heart into it. So I was singing about wanting things to be like they were before she went. You know, it was a double-edged sword because it was about what I wanted to do, but it was also about wanting to turn back to when she was with me. Powerful stuff.”
Simon Cowell is being nice to Susan – and he likes her album
Simon Cowell has a reputation for being a Mr Nasty in the reality TV talent show world. However, he is showing a completely different side with Susan Boyle.
In order that the pressures don’t become too great for Susan, her interview on NBC was prerecorded, and not live, to keep the pressure off our favourite lady.
Susan’s chat with Meredith Vieira aired in the US this morning and will be repeated at 9pm tonight before America’s Got Talent (bumping Barack out of the way).
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell has revealed that he is delighted with the progress so far on Susan’s album. He said: “We went through about 350 songs and Susan was blown away by some of the choices. She’s going to surprise a lot of people with this record.”
Susan Boyle Evades Boyfriend Question on Today Show
Susan Boyle appeared on the NBC’s Today show on Friday 17th April, but declined to answer the question: Have you got a boyfriend yet?
Last weekend when Susan appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, she said that she was 47 and had “never been married, never been kissed”
As of yesterday, more than 25 million people had viewed Susan Boyle’s performance on YouTube, so Today presenter Meredith Vieira asked Boyle if there had been any male suitors (not counting Piers Morgan) beating a path to her door.
Boyle laughed a girly laugh, and chortled, “No comment.”
Matt Lauer admitted that he’s watched her video “12 or 14 times”, though Boyle, sitting at home and talking in America via a satellite link, said the reaction from everywhere in the world “hasn’t sunk in yet.”
Simon Cowell has however commented (on GMTV) that Boyle winning “Britain’s Got Talent” is by no means a “done deal”. Cowell added “There are some acts that you haven’t seen yet, it’s not quite the one-horse race you are going to think this is.”
