Susan Boyle sings for The Pope in Scotland
Susan Boyle gave a brilliant performance for Pope Benedict XVI at Bellahouston Park in Scotland yesterday, which was broadcast on three large screens so that all the crowds would have a good view of her.
Susan, who is a devout Catholic, did not appear to be nervous, even though she had reportedly fainted 24 hours earlier after being told that she would meet the Pope.
Susan sang her signature song “I Dreamed a Dream” before performing the hymn “How Great Thou Art” which also appeared on her debut album.
Susan also sang after the celebration of the Mass, as the Pope left the altar and departed.
The crowds who turned out to watch Susan were bowled over by her performance.
One fan,Marie-Alice Quigley, 60, told the Daily Record: “I thought she was marvellous. She was every bit as good as she’s made out to be.”
Another pair of fans, Lesley Morrison, 28, and husband James, 34, also told the Daily Record: “We’re from Stoneyburn in West Lothian which is near where Susan’s from. We’re so proud of her.”
Susan Boyle asked to sing at Tribute for Saint
Susan Boyle has been approached by The Vatican to sing at a tribute to Saint Padre Pio, a Capuchin monk.
Father Gian Maria Di Giorgi, a senior figure in the Roman Catholic church, flew to Scotland last month to make the request of Susan, according to a report in today’s Sunday Express. Susan is said to be considering the offer, saying:”: ?I have a great devotion to Padre Pio.?
Susan is already lined up to sing for Pope Benedict this September when he visits Scotland.
Padre Pio is famed for his ?stigmata, which are wounds that are said to appear spontaneously which mimic the wounds that Jesus suffered during the Crucifixion. However, some people believe the wounds were self inflicted. Padre Pio died in 1968 and is now laid to rest in a golden crypt at San Giovanni Rotondo in southern Italy. Many pilgrims visit the crypt. Padre Pio was canonised eight years ago.
A gift to Susan was organised by Maria Dorrian, the Scottish delegate for the Padre Pio Centre. The gift consisted of a set of rosary beads which included a piece of Padre Pio’s bandage with blood from his stigmata.
Maria Dorrian told the Express: ??Susan has inspired so many of us. I don?t think she realises the impact she is having, not only through her music, but spiritually to people throughout the world.?
Susan Boyle invited to Sing for the Pope
Susan Boyle has been invited to sing for the pope when he visits Scotland in September, according to an article in the Daily Record.
Susan has been invited by leaders of the Catholic Church to perform in front of the huge crowd expected to greet the Pontiff at an outdoor mass.
Susan will sing before the papal address and she might also give a performance during the mass in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow.
A senior source at the church told the Daily Record: “Susan has agreed to sing and everyone is delighted. It is a done deal.
“There are still some of the finer details to be ironed out but it has been approved by the highest echelons in the Vatican.
“Susan has described it as a dream come true and it will be an extra attraction for everyone attending.”
Susan herself is a devout Catholic, and I am sure that she is delighted to have been asked to sing in front of the pope.
It is not yet known which songs Susan will choose, however a spokesman for the church said: “We would be delighted if Susan Boyle were to perform on the day at Bellahouston Park. She is top of our wish list.”
Pope Benedict XVI is scheduled to visit Edinburgh and Glasgow at the start of a four day UK tour? September 16th-19th.
Susan Boyle wants to sing for the Pope
Susan Boyle has expressed a desire to sing for the Pope when he visits Glasgow this September, according to an article in today’s Daily Record.
She confided in Simon Cowell’s brother, Tony, that she would ?drop everything? to entertain the Pope.
Tony told the Daily Record: ?As Scotland?s first lady, she is the obvious choice. It would be a dream come true but she would drop everything if asked to perform for the Pope.?
It is thought that Pope Benedict XVI will make an address to thousands of worshippers on Glasgow Green during his trip on September 16th and 17th, 2010, although the Vatican has not yet confirmed the visit.
It is thought that the Vatican will make an announcement concerning the visit towards the end of February or the beginning of March.
