Susan Boyle to return to Number One on Billboard 200?
Susan Boyle’s “I Dreamed a Dream” album may retake the Number One spot on the Billboard 200 next week, according to the Billboard website, as she is predicted to sell a further 80,000 copies of her album in the US by Sunday 24th January.
The upsurge in sales is as a result of Susan’s chat and performance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, although her segment was only 20 minutes long. Adam Lambert’s segment took up the balance of the hour long broadcast.
Susan Boyle not Number One on Billboard 200 from Wednesday
It has widely been predicted that Susan Boyle will not be number one for a seventh week on the Billboard 200, as it is expected that new kid on the block, Ke$ha, and her album, Animal, will take over the number one slot.
I am still expecting Susan Boyle to appear on Oprah at some time in the future. Some reports suggest that the interview will be taped tomorrow, and aired at a later date. According to the Chicago Tribune, Adam Lambert will appear on the same episode of Oprah as Susan Boyle.
Adam has apparently tweeted: “Happy as a clam. Off to Chicago tomorrow morning to film Oprah.”
Back to Ke$ha, the spelling of her name is giving me wicked ideas. Should Mr Cowell perhaps change his name to $imon?
Susan Boyle has the Biggest Selling Album of the Year in Australia
Susan Boyle’s album, I Dreamed a Dream, is the biggest selling album of 2009 in Australia, and now Susan says that she would like to tour Australia this year.
Speaking to the Australian Sunday Herald Sun, Susan said: “When I entered the Britain’s Got Talent competition in Scotland this year, I could never in my wildest of dreams imagined having the biggest-selling album of the year on the other side of the world by Christmas.
“I’d like to say a very sincere thank you to everyone in Australia that’s shown me the most incredible support.
“I’m really hoping I might visit Australia in 2010 to thank everyone in person.”
Susan’s album is still the world’s number one.
Within Australia, it has been certified eight times platinum, with 560,000 sales, and counting. It also broke a record in the ARIA chart by selling more than 100,000 copies for two consecutive weeks.
Susan Boyle likely to be Number One on Billboard 200 for Sixth Successive Week
Susan Boyle is likely to be Number One on the Billboard 200 for a sixth week, according to a report on Billboard.biz. However, current predictions are that the sales of Susan’s album will not overtake those of Taylor Swift, although it’s clearly going to be a nail biting finish.
According to Billboard, the total number of sales of Taylor Swift’s Fearless are 3,157,000, whereas the total number of sales of I Dreamed a Dream stand at 2,982,000.
“Fearless” is projected to sell a further 65,000 to 75,000 copies this week, and current predictions are that I Dreamed a Dream will not sell sufficient copies to close the gap, although the album is projected to sell over 100,000 copies this week.
The figures come from Nielsen SoundScan.
Next week’s album chart will be published on Wednesday, 6th January and includes data for the week ending Sunday, 3rd January.
Susan Boyle tops the Billboard 200 for an Incredible 5th Week
Susan Boyle’s debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, has held onto the number one position on the Billboard 200 for an amazing fifth week in succession, according to MTV, despite a strong challenge from Mary J Blige, whose album Stronger reached number 2 with sales of 330,000 copies. Susan’s album sold a further 510,000 according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan, which pushed her five week US sales total to just under 3 million.
Andrea Bocelli, with whom Susan Boyle has been tipped to duet in 2010, held onto his number 3 position with his album My Christmas.
According to the article, Susan’s album sales “almost equal” those of Taylor Swift’s Fearless, so we’ll just have to wait until Sunday to see if Susan’s album sales overtake those of Taylor.
Susan Boyle Still Number One in Australia
Susan Boyle has held onto her number one spot in Oz with her album I Dreamed a Dream, with total sales of more than 400,000 copies. This means that the record has gone 6 times platinum in Australia in just 4 weeks. Sales for last week were 164,973 units according to Undercover Music News. This was more than twice the number of sales that the number one album a year ago, Funhouse by Pink, sold across the same period.
The battle is still on in the US to see if Susan Boyle’s album will be the biggest seller of the year, overtaking Taylor Swift’s Fearless. The result will be announced on January 3rd, 2010.
Susan Boyle Still Number One in Canada and Breaking Records
Susan Boyle’s debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, is still number one in Canada, for the week ending December 19th, in addition to continuing to be number one on the Billboard 200 for the third consecutive week. It is also number one in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Switzerland.
According to Susan’s official website, her album has also received RIAA-Triple Platinum Certification for shipping over three million copies to retailers in the US. The album is the biggest seller released in 2009, and the first album released in 2009 to hold onto the number one chart position consecutively for three weeks. In that time, it has also achieved the highest album sales ever for a debut artist.
Internationally, there have been over 7 million copies of Susan’s album shipped worldwide and Susan also has thre record for being the fastest selling global female debut artiste.
Susan Boyle Number One on Billboard for a Third Week
Susan Boyle has retained her number one spot for the top selling album on the Billboard 200 for the third week running. She sold a further 582,000 copies of “I Dreamed a Dream” during the week ending December 13th, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In total so far her album has sold 1.8 million copies – so perhaps Piers Morgan will be presenting her with another platinum disc soon!
In other news, it has been confirmed that the video of Susan Boyle’s Britain’s Got Talent audition was the top video of the year, with YouTube owners Google saying the video was watched more than 120 million times.
Susan’s TV special: I Dreamed a Dream – The Susan Boyle Story was also a big hit, becoming the number one rated television special in the history of TV Guide Network. The Americans were particularly excited about Elaine Paige’s duet with Susan Boyle. Misti in Seattle tells me: “Everyone here is SO excited and thrilled about Susan’s duet with Elaine and wanting more! In fact we are very happy for Elaine as most of us had not even heard of her before and now SHE is also going to have a wonderful career here in the USA as well as her British one.
Misti continues: “She was so sweet to Susan at the beginning when others were making fun of her and she has been so gracious about being the “guest” and giving Susan her “star” time. They both just sparkle together and sound wonderful.
“I am so hoping they do an album together and bet they will as the producers will not let THIS money maker slide through their hands.”
I think we’d all like to see more collaboration between Elaine Paige and Susan Boyle, wouldn’t we? An album of duets would be lovely.
For those of you who don’t know Elaine Paige, she has had a long career in musical theatre in the West End, but became better known by the public when Andrew Lloyd Webber selected her to play Eva Peron in his new musical Evita, back in 1978. It was Elaine Paige who recorded the original “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” and the other songs from the musical, long before Madonna remade them.
And finally, Susan Boyle is unsurprisingly odds on to secure the Christmas number one album spot in the UK, according to the bookmakers Ladbrokes.
Susan Boyle still at Number One on Billboard 200
Susan Boyle’s debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, has held onto the number one slot on the Billboard 200 for the second week running, with the sale of another 527,000 copies.
Even though this figure was 25% lower than the first week’s slaes, which were 701,000, Susan easily remained in the top spot, the closest competition coming from Andrea Bocelli’s My Christmas, which sold 428,000 copies.
In other news, Susan Boyle has referred to David Hasselhoff as “a nice wee hunk” – she met The Hoff when she appeared on America’s Got Talent.
Mr Hasselhoff, meanwhile, has repaid the compliment to Susan, praising her for “bringing the world together”.
