Susan Boyle’s Cousin Auditions for Britain’s Got Talent
I’ve been reading various media reports, the original source of which was probably The Sun, that Susan Boyle’s cousin has had a successful audition for Britain’s Got Talent.
I’ve so far been unable to get the young lady’s name, but according to The Sun she wowed the judges, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan, with her rendition of “Fields of Gold”.
Piers said: “She is a young girl with a big voice.”
And Amanda confirmed: “We have a moment in the auditions that’s very interesting.”
Can lightning strike twice?
Susan Boyle – Simon says mistakes were made
Simon Cowell has been talking to the press about “the situation” with Susan Boyle, and he has said that it could have been handle better. Organisers of the Britain’s Got Talent tour have said that Susan will miss the live shows in Nottingham today, for another rest day, but it is still hoped that she will be well enough to perform in London.
Simon Cowell told the Daily Mail: “Looking back on it all, it has become clear to me that we didn’t handle the situation with Susan as well as we could have.
“Yet, to be honest, I don’t know that I could have done it any differently.”
He added that he had met Susan Boyle’s family last week and he asked them whether she should have been allowed to continue competing in the Britain’s Got Talent competition when it was apparent how stressed she was becoming.
He said that the family had all agreed she should be allowed to continue, confirming that she had always wanted to sing.
Cowell admitted that he had not expected Boyle to become “the most famous woman in the world” when she first auditioned.
Although her audition was good, Simon said that she came over “well but not sensationally”. Nevertheless, the Youtube footage of her audition became an internet sensation, and gained Susan celebrity fans in the UK and US.
Cowell said that initially Susan Boyle “seemed fine with all the attention” and she told him that she was having the time of her life.
As the final approached Susan was nervous but “seemed fine” and had any help she needed, including the support of her close friend. Simon said that she did not to him appear to be more nervous than Paul Potts was before his final two years earlier. “She understood the significance of the night,” he said.
After the result was announced, and Susan was not the winner of the viewer phone in poll, Simon Cowell commented: “I suddenly realised she didn’t know how to cope with losing. We didn’t handle it well.”
He added: “Then, at the crucial point in the final, I looked at her face and thought, ‘Christ, she doesn’t know how to deal with not winning’.
“It was a bad moment.
Afterwards, I went over and gave her a hug and tried to reassure her.
“I said, ‘Susan, my offer to record an album with you still stands’. We agreed we would work together – that it wasn’t the end of the road.”
Afterwards Simon he admitted he felt a little uncomfortable, and the rest is history. As far as the tour goes, it is up to Susan whether or not she feels able to perform. When she has been able to perform, her performances have been amazingly well received.
As far as Susan Boyle’s fans are concerned (and I know, because they write to me), they just want Susan to be well. They think she should rest as much as she needs to and not be worried about the tour. The last thing that they would want is for her to feel that she is letting any body down. They are all looking forward to her bringing out a CD so they can listen to her at home.
Susan Boyle and America’s Got Talent – Piers Talks to the Examiner
Piers Morgan has been interviewed by the Examiner about Susan Boyle and America’s Got Talent.
Piers has always been a supported of Susan. He told the Examiner: “The great thing about Susan was it came at a perfect time ? a time when, you know, the whole world was suffering a bit from this big recession and feeling a bit down in the dumps. And here you have the most incredibly inspiring story of somebody who had never sung outside of her village in Scotland ? just part of the local church community, certainly never sung professionally ? comes to an audition on “Britain?s Got Talent,” and just like Terry Fator [the winner of the second season of] “America?s Got Talent” before, something triggered this reaction.”
He added that Susan Boyle became an internet sensation whilst they were auditioning for America’s Got Talent, and because of this they noticed far more people turning up to be auditioned. In turn, this has made the standard of the final 40 acts higher than it has been in previous years. Piers said: “The Susan Boyle phenomenon has pulled through into the American show.”
Piers also added that he thought that the Susan Boyle effect would increase the viewing figures for America’s Got Talent. For Britain’s Got Talent, Susan increased the normal ratings of the show by 50%. He added that he thought America will respond to the challenge: “Have you got anyone who can beat our Susan?”
Piers was asked if the judges of Britain’s Got Talent had any prior warning that Susan Boyle had a good voice when they auditioned her. Piers said no, they have no warning. Simon Cowell is adamant that the judges should never have any warning as that would spoil the element of surprise. Remember – he nearly buzzed Hollie Steel before he heard her voice. He said you might get their name – but that is it.
He added the unpredictability and spontaneity was what made the show special.
Simon Cowell talks about Susan Boyle on GMTV
Simon Cowell has spoken on GMTV about the immense pressure Susan Boyle found herself to be under following her appearance on “Britain’s Got Talent”.
He said that she had found it “very, very difficult” to cope with the intense media pressure and interest her audition had generated.
Simon added: “Everyone is writing about her, she’s in the spotlight and she found it difficult to cope with and, at that point, even I sat down with her and said ‘Look, if this is getting too much for you, you don’t have to go into the final, no-one is going to force you’.”
“And she looked me in the eye and said ‘No, I want to win this competition, I want to give it a go’ and that was the decision we all made.”
Meanwhile, Susan appeared on stage in Glasgow last night on the Britain’s Got Talent tour to a rapt audience, and is expected to appear live in Edinburgh tonight.
Britain’s Got Talent faces possible Ofcom probe
Ofcom, the regulator of the media in the UK, is considering launching an enquiry into the treatment of Susan Boyle on Britain’s Got Talent after receiving complaints from viewers of the show.
Susan Boyle is currently in The Priory Clinic suffering from “exhaustion”.
An article in today’s Daily Mail says that the producers of the show have been criticised for not withdrawing Susan from the contest as it is now understood that she was neither sleeping nor eating properly in the run up to the final.
A source from Ofcom told London’s Evening Standard: “There are a lot to go through. There are complaints about Susan Boyle being allowed to perform in the final.”
However, another source from Ofcom who spoke to the Times confirmed that they had received a number of complaints, but denied that there was going to be an inquiry.
Meanwhile, Piers Morgan told NBC’s “Today” show that what upset Susan the most were the negative reports that started to appear in the press.
“What she didn’t like was all the negative stuff that was appearing in the papers,” he said. “You know, you wake up one day and you’ve gone from anonymity to being the front page of every British tabloid screaming, ‘Cracking up,’ ‘Boyling over.’ It’s going to have an effect on you.”
However, Piers Morgan – Susan Boyle’s favourite judge – predicted that Susan would recover completely and go on to enjoy a great recording career.
“I don’t think she wants to go back to Scotland and disappear,” he said.
Susan Boyle and the Britain’s Got Talent statistics
It has been estimated that around 16 million people in the UK tuned in to watch Susan Boyle in the Britain’s Got Talent final, according to a report today in the Daily Mirror.
The bookmakers all breathed a sigh of relief that Susan did not win, as they would have lost thousands of pounds – Susan was the clear bookies’ favourite all along. One lady from Torquay, Devon placed a bet of ?7000 that Susan Boyle would win – I would imagine she is not very happy right now.
Around 4 million viewers voted and the results were as follows:
1. Diversity with 996,000 votes – just under 25% of the total votes
2. Susan Boyle with 808,000 – around 20% of the total votes
3. Saxophonist Julian Smith with 656,000 – around 16% of the total? votes
Susan Boyle comes second in the final of Britain’s Got Talent final
Susan Boyle has come second in the Britain’s Got Talent final. The results have just been announced live on ITV. In third place was saxophinist Julian Smith, in second place Susan Boyle and in first place were the dance troupe Diversity.
Susan Boyle put on an amazing performance and I’m sure she will have a fantastic career in front of her. Nevertheless, Diversity put on one of the finest dance displays that I have ever seen, and certainly their choreographer is a genius.
Having said that, I still wanted Susan to win and I thought that she would win – well, this is a Susan Boyle fan site after all – but nevertheless, I saw the expression on Susan’s face when the results were announced, and I definitely saw relief there – relief that perhaps now the pressure would be off her.
Susan warmly congratulated Diversity with grace and dignity, saying that “the best people won” and she wished them “all the best.”
I am convinced that Susan has a glittering career in front of her, and I know she is loved hugely by people from all over the world, and especially the US. I am sure that she will have a number one album before very long – I think Mr Cowell will make sure of that – and I will certainly be buying it.
Good luck Susan, in everything you do!
Susan Boyle performing in Britain’s Got Talent final
Susan Boyle has completed her performance in the final of Britain’s Got Talent. She sang “I Dreamed a Dream” again – the song that she first sang at her audtion – and she performed it brilliantly. We now have another half an hour (at the time of writing) of nail biting before the results of the public vote are announced.
Watch Susan’s performance and the judges remarks here:
Susan Boyle’s not quitting Britain’s Got Talent
Well, you can all breathe a sigh of relief now. Susan Boyle has promised to stay on? Britain’s Got Talent, despite earlier threatening to leave the show which made her a global star, according to a report in today’s Mail Online.
She has spent weeks rehearsing her song for the final and will be performing tomorrow.
In a written statement, she said: “I want nothing more than to stay and sing in the Britain’s Got Talent final.
“I’ve spent weeks rehearsing – it’s all I’ve been thinking about. I’m not going to throw away my big chance now.”
A spokeswoman for Britain’s Got Talent has confirmed that Susan will perform, despite her having her bags packed to leave earlier in the week.
She said that: “Susan Boyle is still very much part of the Britain’s Got Talent. She is looking forward to the Grand Final and she is rehearsing hard to prepare for the biggest night of her life.
“She, like all of our contestants, is being closely looked after by programme makers.
“Susan’s personal welfare is very important to us, and we will continue to do everything we can to make sure she remains happy and well.
“She just wants to focus on her performance, and the well-being of our contestants is our number one priority.”
As mentioned previously, Susan is now in a secret location where she can prepare herself mentally and vocally, without being hassled or pestered by the media or over intrusive fans.
I know that I and the vast majority of readers of this site send Susan Boyle all our best wishes for tomorrow’s final.
Susan Boyle BGT final will be attended by Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher
Susan Boyle’s performance in the final of Britain’s Got Talent will be watched in person by Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. Demi has confirmed that she will be flying over to watch the final today, according to a report in The Sun.
Demi Moore’s praise of Susan Boyle on Twitter was what helped to make Susan Boyle an internet phenomenom, especially in the US.
Simon Cowell has offered Ms Moore and her husband, the very handsome Ashton Kutcher (I fell in love with him during his film the Butterfly Effect), free first class plane tickets and accommodation in The Dorchester.
Ms Moore’s invitation to attend the Britain’s Got Talent final was also made via Twitter. Amanda Holden used Twitter to invite Demi and Ashton over to watch the BGT final, offering Simon Cowell’s private jet as an inducement.
Yesterday Demi replied saying: ?Well, if he offers the ride…?
Simon Cowell vetoed the use of his jet – but offered the next best thing.
Amanda tweeted: ?Message for Demi!! Please someone get this to her… Simon says Yes!! But to first class tickets!!!?
Demi then responded back to thank Amanda and Simon ? and to check the start time of Saturday’s final.
?What no private plane?? she joked.
