Susan Boyle not nominated for a Brit Award
What was the biggest travesty of 2009? Susan Boyle losing out to Diversity in Britain’s Got Talent.
What is the biggest travesty of 2010? Susan Boyle not being nominated for a Brit Award.
What is it with us Brits? Why can’t we celebrate the talent that we have in this country? Susan Boyle had the best selling UK album of 2009 – yet no nomination, probably because she is just not “cool” enough to receive one.
What a load of old cobblers!!!
What do you all think?

What a disgrace!!!! How could her own people not honor her after she sold the most albums in 2009 (by the way, she did it in 6 weeks). Shame on you all.
Even though I don’t know about these awards, I’m not surprised. I never heard of most of the musical groups these days, and it would seem you have to be a freak to get attention. Lady Gaga? She was one of Barbara Walters’ People of the Year. Please. I’ve read comments from Brits that they’re sick and tired of being bombarded with news on Susan, whereas here in the States there’s absolutely NOTHING. I check the Top Ten every week and there have been two short paragraphs on her continuing number one spot (as of this week, number two), but that’s it. Nothing on the radio, no recognition in articles about top albums of the year. Nothing. Who are those 7 million people worldwide who bought her album? Would they admit to it? Or is it their little secret? I’m so glad I respond to someone like Susan and not someone like Lady Gaga.
I can?t believe the award is NOT BASED ON MERIT!!! This award is based on ?subjective? opinion which is ?always? biased. This award definitely should NOT be taken seriously at all. Think about it?what is the criteria they are using?- their own prejudices and petty agendas. It is not even worth being upset?they are a useless organization with no credibility. Awards should be based on merit. Susan sold more albums in United Kingdom in 2009 than anyone else; she sold more in the World than anyone else; and just narrowly missed best selling album by 100,000 in the United States, selling 3.2 million to Taylor Swift?s 3.3 million. SUSAN DID THIS IN SIX WEEKS. Forget about this award?it is stupid!!!
I have just returned from the Brit Award list of nominees. I think I knew 5 of them. Who are LadyHawke (Intl. Female), and Bat for Lashes (Brit. Female)? Lily Allen, this after her nasty spew about Susan. I wouldn’t feel bad for Susan given the company. It seems an award show where an age/style restriction is imposed.
And really, there is not an award distinction that would really reflect the greatness of Susan Boyle. Definitely, Susan is the AWARD, any prize simply pales in the presence of this woman. We who have a tug of heart for her, align ourselves inside of her artistry, and are happier and brighter because of her, well, we know.
Forgive me, I’m not a Brit – instead an American who is old enough to remember an Amerian singer named Kate Smith.
Kathryn Elizabeth “Kate” Smith (May 1, 1907 ? June 17, 1986) was an American singer, best known for her rendition of Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America”. Smith had a radio, TV and recording career spanning five decades, reaching its most-remembered zenith in the 1940s. Kate’s broad figure made her an occasional object of derision from fellow performers and managers; however, in her later career, some Philadelphia Flyers hockey fans lovingly said about her performances before games, “it ain’t BEGUN ’til the fat lady sings!” Smith, who weighed 235 pounds at the age of 30[1] was unfazed, and titled her 1938 autobiography Living in a Great Big Way. She credited Ted Collins, who also gave her the break into the radio business, with helping her overcome her self-consciousness, writing, “Ted Collins was the first man who regarded me as a singer, and didn’t even seem to notice that I was a big girl,” She noted, “I’m big, and I sing, and boy, when I sing, I sing all over!” From Kate Smith Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kate_Smith).
Ron…nice…thankyou…
Well said Ron you are spot on. Susan has real tallent not like the likes of Lily Allen etc…
I’m not familiar with the Brit Awards, being American, but it seems to me that award shows have always been very generational. That is, they honor the people that are popular with the current consumer generation of the time. In the “consumer generation” I would roughly include 18 – 32.
When I was in that age group I knew EVERYONE who was nominated for any of the major entertainment awards. Today (at the age of 60+) I know practically none of the names.
Certainly there are people in that age group who are fans of Susan, but by and large most of us are well outside that group. For Susan (and for us) these award shows are largely irrelevant, in my humble opinion.
…and OPRAH is on in 10 minutes! Bye!
