Susan Boyle

I have received an email from a Susan Boyle fan who is clearly concerned about the way that Susan Boyle has been portrayed in The News of The World newspaper. His / her email has been quoted from heavily below, with my own comments in brackets.

Hi,

You may wish to create an article on your site for everyone to see questioning the negative and sensational reports that have recently been ran by The Sun / News of the World (same owner) tabloid newspapers.

Whilst some parts cannot be either confirmed or denied, there are at least three parts where the truth seems to have been manipulated. This brings into question the amount of truth behind all the rest of their articles.

1) The main first picture with caption “BEATEN: Glum Susan faces up to defeat on last night’s show”.

- This is wrong. Susan made that face when it was announced that she was one of the three winners! She did not make that face when she was defeated, as per the caption! In fact, Susan cheered the winners. (Yes, this is true, I think Susan looked relieved not to win. Anyway, you can verify this for yourself in the Youtube clip of the final results, featured at the foot of this article.)

2) The text “Susan was even BOOED by a small section of the TV audience last night.”

- This is selective. Susan was only booed when the judge Piers Morgan stated that he was not supposed to favour anyone and be impartial as a judge but said forget it and that he chose Boyle to win. This obviously drew boos from the families and supporters of all the other acts. Why would they cheer that? And all the acts had not yet appeared either for Piers to make such a bold statement.

3) The text “…she let rip with a foul-mouthed tirade against two fans and had to be calmed down by police.”

These “two fans” were said by a spokeswoman to be “two journalists” (I referred to them as mean paparazzi in an earlier article) that they were “harassing her” and “she was left distressed”. The journalists were removed from the building by police. None of this is mentioned by the paper.

The full article contains a video interview with Gerry Boyle, Susan’s brother, who says: “They just left her own on her own. She has got a short-fuse and she just blew. Who wouldn’t under that pressure? She’s told me, ‘I feel tired and stressed,’ and that’s understandable.”
